Maria Cristina Lattes

Maria Cristina Lattes is an Argentine sculptor whose work is defined by a refined sensitivity to material, form, and spiritual presence. Working primarily in wood, she creates elongated, delicate figures that balance lightness with emotional depth.

Using woods such as palo santo, algarrobo, and guayubira, she carves, polishes, and textures each surface to reveal its natural character. Smooth, luminous areas contrast with raw, organic textures, creating a nuanced interplay of tone and structure. Her figures, often feminine, feel timeless and contemplative, evoking a quiet, almost sacred presence with subtle references to Giacometti and Modigliani.

As noted in critical writing, her work reflects “a special intuition for achieving refined forms,” combining technical precision with sensitivity and restraint. Whether in solitary figures or small groupings, her sculptures move between introspection and human connection.

Born in Pergamino, Buenos Aires, Lattes has exhibited internationally in cities including New York, Havana, Athens, and Delft, as well as across Argentina. Recent exhibitions include the LA Art Show, Art San Diego, and the Beverly Hills Art Show, where she received major awards in sculpture.

Her work continues to explore the relationship between material, form, and emotion, inviting a quiet and contemplative experience.
